As you may or may not have known, I have been working
on this project for about a year now and I appreciate it if
you came and check this out or show your support by
posting this for others to see. I am really excited about
this exhibit!
This is an INFORMAL invitation to the VIP reception
on April 22nd and Grand Opening on the 23rd for the
exhibit, "Ao Dai: A Modern Design Coming of Age." The
exhibition, VIP reception and Grand Opening will be
held at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles.

The VIP reception is on Saturday, April 22, 2006
7-9pm. It features a tour of the exhibit by the
co-curators, Dr. Kieu Linh Valverde and Robin Treen,
with special attendance by Bravo TV's "Project Runway"

The Grand Opening will be held Sunday April 23rd,
2-4pm. There will be lots of wonderful people there;
do not forget to wear your ao dais! Food and
refreshments will be served and there will be live
jazz by the Daniel Green Trio and an appearance by
Chloe Dao. $5 entrance fee.

The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles

Association for Viet Arts http://www.vietarts.org is
pleased to announce our collaboration for an
exhibition focusing on the ao dai. The show is
planned
to feature both contemporary and historical examples
of ao dai, as well as provide a context for the
development and evolution of style and aesthetic.
Ao Dai: A Modern Design Coming of Age is scheduled to
open at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles on
April 18, 2006 and run through July 9, 2006

Lecture by Dr. Kieu Linh Caroline Valverde
Professor Valverde will offer a survey of the history of áo dài, focusing on its revival in the 1990s, its value as a national symbol, and its rise as an aesthetic art object.

Áo Dài: Fashioning Culture in Time, Place, and Identity
Lecture by Dr. Susan B. Kaiser
Professor Kaiser will situate the áo dài in time and place, addressing issues of national identity, gender, ethnicity and class, as well as the social meaning of national costumes.

The Business of Áo Dài
Lecture by Monica Tran
Owner of Trust Fund Baby Boutique, fashion designer and businesswoman Monica Tran will address the fashion industry, and how she incorporated the áo dài into her mainstream designs.
Free Children's Workshops in conjunction with Áo Dài: A Modern Design Coming of Age

For children 3-12 years old. All workshops are drop-in and feature hands-on art & craft áo dài projects.
Young children will be decorating ao dai patterns and designs with paper, yarn, glitter, feathers, etc.
Older children will be given the opportunity to design their own áo dài or áo dài ensemble using paper, fabric, lace, and various notions.

$5/students and seniors

$15.00/non-members
